In my sophomore (university) Travel Literature course, we are reading Michael Crichton's biography, Travels. The book traces his journey through med school, trips to far flung corners of the earth, and forays into the psychic realm. The book is engaging, but there really aren't a lot of resources to go along with it. I'd like to find pictures, interviews, links to other texts we're reading (Kerouac, Whitman, Steinbeck's Travels With Charley) --anything that would add an additional layer of depth to our book talks. So far I have searched for: Michael Crichton "Travels", Michael Crichton medical school Michael Crichton beats Michael Crichton "Travels" "Travels With Charley" "Michael Crichton Whitman" "Michael Crichton Kerouac" "Michael Crichton Harvard" "Michael Crichton Harvard psychedelic club"

As a potential project, I'm going to look for sources on learning and visual to text assignment taskings, how the brain's affinity for visual input may actually improve learning (connected to constructivism / brain function). Since the project outcomes are still unformed, I created a brainstorming list based on some of the readings thus far (primarily the New Learning textbook):

constructivism; brain learning; neurology; brain plasticity; knowledge; meaning making; understanding; transfer; visual learning; learning styles; scaffolding; Vygotsky; pictographs.

Some of these terms were found in the text itself, some from a Thesauras, others from other readings.

In light of findings from research such as the citation project that students don't engage fully with sources, I want to have a lesson on summarizing and synthesizing sources.

Keywords: summary, academic summary, synopsis, abstract, precis, synthesis, synthesize sources, synthesize readings, integrate sources, integrate readings, integrate research, connect sources, connect reading, connect research

My objective is to find a way to integrate new media theories into the writing center better. I am trying to create a new media project for the Writing Center at ODU and for Engl 866. So far the search terms I have are "new media" "writing center" "technology" "computer" "writing process".

You might also consider "digital technology" "writing lab" "writing studio" "multiliteracy center" and "multimodal"
