Okay, I'm posting this anyway. I "missed" the window where there were people in sococo so I just wandered around in my own space for a bit checking out how it works and thinking of possibilities. There are several very good things I like. One is the virtual rooms that can be breakouts from the main crown but you can still see the other participants in the space. The screen sharing is great but how does it look when you have two screens up? Can what you show be a google doc ? That would be cool.

How close does the new google+ hangouts come to replicating this? It seems to me that for my purposes it would work just fine and its free - even if the google education domain my district has right now has it turned off.

Fortunately, I managed to get a look at this environment when AgileBill was driving the avatar during the discussion in May. Like you, I found that the ability to enclose discussion within one room but still have IM enabled across the space would be useful. The one thing I disliked was the lack of the look you have in a 3D space - for me that is the most engaging aspect and it allows one to utilise the imagination in many different ways.

Another member of the late to the party group, but I am a big supporter of virtual presence.
I will attempt to hold a meeting in Sococo sometime for comparison with other venues.

I prefer virtual worlds, with avatars over video hangouts for many of Bill's same reasons.
Every time I have had to do a video activity, more time is spent in preparation than the actual activity, i.e. making my self and space presentable. Those two data points can be distracting or even discounting to others, who may then miss my message.
