I have been doing some research about chests and game items but really I think these issues are more related to what is available to us as designers on the server through plug ins, and in particular as I don't know enough about creating maps etc - though I don't know if creating a map would be available in a small area instead of the whole world! I have two questions which I am hoping have easy answers.
1. Is there a way to automatically give a player a book on arrival at your game or do they have to open a chest to receive it?
2. How do I automatically replenish a chest once items have been removed? I was reading about trapped chests but I'm not sure if that's what I need to use?

Thanks for any and all help!

This is possible in a server environment and with the help of plugins. I use a plugin called BookShelf that allows for book distribution. Creating the books and setting it up requires administrative access to a server with the plugins installed. If this is something you want to do for your game, research the plugin's development page here: http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins/bookshelf/. I can assist if that's a feature you wish to add to your game.

2. How do I automatically replenish a chest once items have been removed? I was reading about trapped chests but I'm not sure if that's what I need to use?

The BookShelf plugin on our server can accomplish this, however, I'm not certain how to make this happen in a single player (non-server-based) build. Like most things, there's probably a way to make it happen! :)

Thanks for any and all help!

MINECRAFT STRUCTURE PLANNER

For helping me to create my mazes in my A-Mazing Adventure map, I used a free application available online called Minecraft Structure Planner. It has a variety of functions for making not only mazes, but domes, bridges, pixel art and other cool stuff. It saves your work as a 'schematic' file which can then be loaded into minecraft using WorldEdit.

The application is available here: http://minecraftstructureplanner.com/

It can be a bit unstable, especially if you try to create any really large structures.

Thanks for sharing! I have been rather intrigued as to how people plan elaborate structures in Minecraft - my first guess was graph paper!

So, as a sort of technical update...

I spent some time today chatting with the server's host's tech team. Learned tons. The server is now running a system that should help with the lag some of you were experiencing in the Imagination Station world. Should you revisit that world, let me know if you notice improvements.

I was adding water to my river/lake and notices flurries. My tip to fix this is to view the blocks underwater as you can see the areas you forgot to fill! I have uploaded some images to illustrate. They are here.
I found water very curious to work with as it has a mind of its own!

If you are a beginner with redstone - like I am - this is a door tutorial which I found fairly easy to put into action. It didn't quite work the way shown but I found if I removed the right side door (when facing) and replaced it after finishing laying the redstone the door worked better!

I had a look at installation instructions for WorldEdit but I couldn't find the files to which the creator referred in my minecraft app support folder on my Mac. I also looked at MCEdit but haven't plucked up the courage to download that and try it out as I don't know how to find out if I have X11 installed. When I see all of these mods and the relative expertise requred to install them I am really a beginner with the technical side of Minecraft and consider myself very lucky to have a couple of super students who run the MinecraftEDU server for me at my computer club!

This video helped me a lot for making my rooms "monster proof." I actually inadvertently built a basic room where the monsters generally spawned rather than in the other rooms. Knowing what blocks prohibit monster spawning and knowing how to control where monsters spawn may help design the adventure map. The video even includes a way to target spawning certain monsters in certain areas.

The Edurealms Server has been updated to version 1.7! So, don't forget to update your clients. Also added Survival Games (think Hunger Games) which is lots of fun (requires 2 or more players).

Whoa lots of awesome information!
I have been into writing since childhood and trying to grow up as a writer on my life's journey I ran into the problem of plagiarism and decided that I want to be part of the solution to this problem. Now I'm writing essays for students and I'm doing well.
